From TelugupediaChiranjeevi (Telugu: చిరంజీవి), born as Konidela Siva Shankara Vara Prasad on August 22, 1955, also known as Mega Star is a legendry actor winning three-time Nandi Awards and seven-time Filmfare Award winning actor in the Telugu cinema industry. He is the most popular actor in telugu film industry replacing Late Sri NTR and is one of the highest paid actors in India. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award bestowed by the Government of India for his contribution to arts and for his social service. He announced his formal entry into politics on 26th August 2008 among gathering of mammoth crowd in Tirupathi and founded a political party named Praja Rajyam. Early lifeVara Prasad is the eldest son of Late Sri Venkat Rao and Srimathi Anjana Devi. He was born on 22 August 1955 in Narsapur,a town on the Banks of River Godavari in the West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh in India. He spent his childhood in his native village with his grand parents.He has two sisters and two brothers.His younger brother, Nagendra Babu is a film producer and a actor.His youngest brother, Pawan Kalyan is also a budding actor. Chiranjeevi did his schooling in Nidadavolu, Gurajala, Ponnuru, Mangalagiri and Mogalturu. He won many prizes for his acting skills in school, especially for the performance as Parandamayya Panthulu. After high school he studied in C.S.R.Sharma Junior College at Ongole. He then graduated from Y.N. College in Narasapur with a B.Com degree. He is an NCC cadet.Chiranjeevi had participated in the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi as an NCC cadet in the early 70s. After his graduation at Y.N. College in Narsapuram, Chiranjeevi moved to Chennai to seek a career in acting. This was in 1977. CareerChiranjeevi has appeared in primarily Telugu language films. Several of his films have been dubbed into Hindi and Tamil. Early Career His first film, Pranam Khareedu, was released in September 1978. After 10 years he filmed his 100th. film, Trinetrudu which did not do well, released in September 1988. Rise to fame Khaidi was the first film to catapult Chiranjeevi into the big league. Personal lifeChiranjeevi married Surekha, the daughter of veteran actor Padma Sri Allu Ramalingaiah. The couple have three children - two daughters Sushmita and Srija and a son, Ram Charan Teja, who now is also an actor. In October 1998 he started a charity called Chiranjeevi Eye and Blood Bank and Charitable Trust . The charity has saved hundreds of lives and nearly 1,600 people have received donated eyes. Movies and Rise to StardomHe started his movie career in 1978 with movie Pranam Khareedu. He acted in several films after that and impressed audience with his excellent dancing abilities and terrific fights. It was not until 1982 with the film 'Khaidi' he struck gold. After this film there was no turning back for Chiranjeevi. Many of the film critics believe that Khaidi changed the course of telugu film industry from melo dramas to hard core action movies. After Khaidi chiranjeevi delivered many block busters like Pasivadi Pranam, Gharana Mogudu, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, Gang Leader etc. He was gifted with title "Mega Star" during 'Marna Mrudamgam'. In 1992 Film Fare magazine released a special edition on chiranjeevi with it's cover page stating "Bigger Than Bachchan". At this point of time Chiranjeevi became the highest paid actor in India. Later he suffered with string of flops with films like Big Boss, Rikshavodu etc bombing at the box office. He came back strong with movie Indra which was a industry hit in 2001. Before taking plunge into politics his last film was Shankardad Zindabad which was a commercial failure. There are rumors making round that he has made a cameo in his Son Ram Charan Tej's upcoming movie with ace film director S S Rajamouli. Charity and servicesOn October 2, 1998, he founded the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT), which includes Chiranjeevi Blood and Eye Banks. It is the state's largest recipient of Blood and Eye Donations. The Blood Bank of the CCT helped over 80,000 people and the Eye Bank has helped about 1000 people in the state of Andhra Pradesh since its opening. So far around 3.5 lakh people have pledged their eyes to CCT, giving 1600 people eye sight through CCT. CCT has also won the "Best Voluntary Blood Bank Award" by the AP State Government for the past 4 years. On June 10, 2006, The President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam, inaugurated the Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation (CCF) at the Jubilee Hills Check post in Hyderabad. Recently chiranjeevi charitable trust has reached one more landmark by crossing the one lakh mark in collecting the blood and more than 96,000 people were helped with blood by this blood bank. Political LifeChiranjeevi's foray into politics was highly anticipated in the media and political circles since 2007. While it was reported that he was seeking opinion of people during the latter half of 2007, the media also suggested that he would announce the decision in January 2008. Even before the party's launch, several political leaders from the Andhra Pradesh such as Harirama Jogaiah from Congress Party and K. Vidyadhar Rao and B Nagi Reddy from the Telugu Desam Party openly declared that they would join hands with Chiranjeevi. Chiranjeevi inaugurated his party office in Jubilee Hills,Hyderabad on August 10, 2008. Speaking to the media after the inauguration, Chiranjeevi said, “I would like to extend my condolences to the families who lost their beloved ones in the incessant rains that occurred in the past 3 three days”. He also added, “ I request all my supporters to extend their help to the people who are in need. I would be announcing my party and its agenda this month. I will be answering all the questions posed by the media on that day." On August 17, 2008 Chiranjeevi has addressed a press conference in his party office to announce his entry into politics. He told that he was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ambedkar N.T.Rama Rao Garu Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Chiranjeevi has announced that a public meeting will be conducted in Tirupati on Aug 26, 2008 which falls on Mother Theresa's birthday. He told that the details of his party and future plan will be declared then. On August 26, 2008 in the public meeting held at Avilala near Tirupati, he announced the party name as Praja Rajyam saying the Rajyam (Rule) belongs to Praja (People). He said his ambition is to empower people to rule themselves. He said he wishes to see “Santhosh's Andhra pradesh”, which means "Happy Andhra Pradesh". He unveiled the party flag in this meeting, which comes White and Green colours in it with a symbol of red coloured Sun in the middle. The new political entrant in Andhra Pradesh Chiranjeevi has decided to show his body strength to his political rivals. He will set his balls rolling for his maiden political yatra from the north coastal Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh on October 10.
