YS Jaganmohan Reddy, son of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, has decided to launch a Telugu daily, Sakshi. This new daily launch in March 24, 2008 – will offer competition to the current market leader, Eenadu.
Sakshi will start with 19 editions in Andhra Pradesh and an initial print run of more than 11 lakh copies. Eenadu has an all India circulation of 11,16,275 copies (ABC figures for January-June 2007).
KRP Reddy, director, marketing, Sakshi, spoke to agencyfaqs! about the new broadsheet. He seemed confident that Sakshi would capture about 55 per cent of the Telugu market on day one itself. Besides Eenadu, the Andhra market has other Telugu papers such as Andhra Bhoomi, Andhra Jyothi, Andhra Prabha, Vaarttha and Surya.
