Srikakulam is the second-most backward district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It has a population of 2,537,593 of which 10.98% is urban as of 2001.
Srikakulam District was created out of part of Vishakhapatnam District on August 15, 1950. Some areas of Ganjam District were also added. Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies
There are 12 Assembly Constituencies and one Parliamentary Constituency in Srikakulam district.
Srikakulam is the only Parliamentary Consituency in this district. It includes the areas under Ichchapuram, Sompeta, Tekkali, Harishchandrapuram, Narasannapeta, Amadalavalasa and Srikakulam assembly constituencies.
The Nagavali and Vamsadhara are the major rivers in Srikakulam district. These two river basins together constitutes about 5 % of the area. Mahendratanaya and Bahuda rivers are the other two minor river basins in the district.
There are no major irrigation projects. Narayanapuram Anicut, Thotapalli Regulator and Pydigam Project are the medium irrigation projects providing a total ayacut of 69,373 acres.
